Improperly executed procedure results in medical malpractice

People in New Mexico and elsewhere in the country entrust their health to medical professionals. Surgeons, especially cardiac surgeons, can literally hold someone's life in their hands. If cardiac surgery is required, one trusts that the utmost care will be taken to see that the surgery and follow up care are carried out properly and carefully. Failure to adhere to these principles can result in a medical malpractice lawsuit.

In a case in another state, a person required a pericardiocentesis. This procedure involves removing fluid from the sac that surrounds the heart. The procedure is typically carried out in a cardiac catheterization lab. In this instance, the procedure was performed at the patient's bedside. As a result, the patient was said to have suffered a severe brain injury.

The patient brought a suit against the hospital for making a negligent decision to perform the procedure at the patient's bedside. The suit is being settled for almost $4 million. The hospital stated that the settlement was not an admission of wrongdoing but would not comment on any specifics.

If a person in New Mexico suffers a negative outcome as a result of a surgery that he or she feels was not properly executed or carried out under appropriate conditions, that individual might want to speak with an experienced personal injury attorney. A knowledgeable lawyer can review the facts of the case and help to determine if a medical malpractice suit is a viable option. A successfully litigated claim can provide compensation for current medical costs as well as for costs of ongoing care that is a required as a result of any injury that was suffered.
